ABASI KEY

"If an individual fails to plan,
they plan to fail."

Abasi Key was born in Chicago, IL and raised in Cincinnati, OH. He is a graduate of Roger Bacon High School and from there was fortunate to earn a football scholarship to West Virginia State University (WVSU). During his time at WVSU he made a huge impact being involved in several student organizations like Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated, WVSU Ambassadors Club, NAACP, WVSU Mentor Club and Academic Achievers Club. Mr. Key was named Mr. West Virginia State during the 1996-1997 school year. The same year, he was also selected as a candidate for Academic All-American for football. Mr. Key graduated in 1998 with B.S in Allied Health. Then he received an academic scholarship to Marshall University Graduate College where he earned his Masters of Art degree in Leadership Studies (Administration-Human Relations).

From 2000-2005, Mr. Key was named Program Coordinator at Braley & Thompson Family Services Agency where he facilitated a demonstration federal grant (Mountain State Family Alliance Grant) for after-school Respite Programs for adolescents with Mental Health Disorders throughout the state of West Virginia. From 2001-2004, Mr. Key also worked as an Adjunct professor at WVSU. In 2003, he established The Key Home in Cincinnati, Ohio an Adult Care Facility that provides housing for military veterans and adults with mental health issues. In 2005, Mr. Key was named General Manager of the West Virginia Wild, a professional basketball team in Charleston, West Virginia. The West Virginia Wild was a member of the new (IBL) International Basketball League. In 2006, he joined Jobs for Cincinnati Graduates as a Senior Career Specialist at Purcell Marian High School.

In 2021, Mr. Key served as a first year Track and Field Head coach at Purcell Marian. He lead his team to win the 2021 Ohio State Track & Field Championship in the 200-meter dash. His mission is to help the Cincinnati community prepare for a brighter/successful future.

In 2008, Mr. Key established his own non-profit organization, Keyz 2 Life. This organization’s vision is to assist adolescents and adults in the community with leadership, career development, community service, basic living and employability skills. The organizations motto is “Unlock your Future”! The organization has established excellent annual community events and leadership/academic programs and workshops. Keyz 2 Life has helped over 300 youth and adults over the past six years and looks forward to assisting many more in the future. Mr. Key has earned numerous awards, certifications, and garnered many success stories. He continues to live his motto “Unlock your Future” and everyday assist individuals with their future goals/plans.
